Can You Identify This Flower?

I received this from Tom Chamberland the other day.  I like it when I am randomly tested, and I pass.  Wasn't always the case.

Can you identify the flower?

"Walley:

Can you identify this flower?

It's in bloom now, we have a trail named after it.

Can you identify the flower in the photo above?

  1. That is trailing arbutus. More commonly known as Mayflower.

  2. I would love to hear our tree warden correctly pronounce the word as arbutus [ahr-byoo-tuhs]
rather than his usual pronunciation of:
"are buttis", with the emphasis on "are."
It's our state flower. We should know how to pronounce it.

  3. Sometimes our New England accent can massacre the pronouciation of even the simplest words. Thank goodness Mayflower is still pronouced MayFlou-ahh. Ayuh.
