We over-paid for it, considering the amount of contamination present. The property is a key link in the completion of the Sturbridge section of the Titanic Rail Trail, and I think that had a lot to do with over-paying. Testing of the contaminated area did not start until fairly recently. The trails committee had been trying to get permission from the Board of Selectmen for some time to replace a washed out culvert on the property, which is needed to access the contaminated area for any type of remediation. The Board of Selectmen denied the trails committee until last fall, when it finally dawned on them that this was crucial. Let's hope that things finally start moving along!
