ReplyDeleteWally - this was cut and paste from WBJ. They followed up with Verizon on your comment and yeah, they heard you, but they weren't being truthful. There is not a NEW cell tower, they just attached their equipment to an existing tower. I'm sure it boosts reception for drivers on the Pike, but you are evidence that it doesn't cover as much as they would lead you to believe.

Following up for you...
We ran this post about cell phone service in Sturbridge and got a reader response asking for more details. We asked the media relations folks at Verizon and received this helpful reply:
"...We attached our equipment to an existing tower in the vicinity of the intersection of the Pike and Route 148. "
So, there's no new tower, but there is boosted cell phone service, according to Verizon.
