Autumn in the North Cemetery.

Sixty miles west of Boston, Massachusetts there is the small New England town of Sturbridge. Located at the junction of I-90 (The Mass Pike), and I-84 it has become known as the "Crossroads of New England". The town was first settled over 300 years ago, and like other small New England towns it has grown just enough over the years to be in a difficult place today. How do we embrace the future without forgetting how we got to our present? How do we attract the right kind of growth, and maintain who we are? And, what about our culture out here in Central Massachusetts?

These pages will cause one to think about how to protect what we have, our future direction, and how to move on in the very best way.

Those thoughts, and other ramblings, will hopefully inspire more thought, conversation, action, and occasionally a smile...

  1. I'd like to publicly thank Virginia Peabody for standing up and voicing her opinion at last night's Selectmen's meeting. She knows a lot about the workings of this town and has spent many years in public service for Sturbridge. I read that the chairman of the board who stated that three members of the board always knew they could use our Chapter 90 funds to pay for the brick sidewalks, told her that this debate is done. This debate is not done. People all over town are upset and will be for a long time to come! By the way, that new sidewalk looks like a patchwork quilt strangely made of a combination of brick and concrete - not a soft and pleasant look at all, but rather an unpleasant and uncomfortable design that will forever remind us how this project was done.

  2. Thank you for your kind words, I stated last night at the BOS meeting that the sidewalks are a done deal, they're in but I requested if in the future such projects involving "real money" such as the brick sidewalks or the artificial turf that was proposed for Tantasqua (both projects approved by our BOS without real resident input) that in the future the projects be put before the residents for real input, that now is my beef, no real outreach for input from us the taxpayers in this town.
A little correction, after I gave my spiel, their was a back and forth first between me and the Selectmen, I stated I was there for a debate, then there was something Scot said that Tom wanted to correct, then there was a little bit of back and forth between them, that's when Tom said the debate was over, he never said it to me. Tom, Mary and Scot were very polite to me.
