Autumn in the North Cemetery.

Sixty miles west of Boston, Massachusetts there is the small New England town of Sturbridge. Located at the junction of I-90 (The Mass Pike), and I-84 it has become known as the "Crossroads of New England". The town was first settled over 300 years ago, and like other small New England towns it has grown just enough over the years to be in a difficult place today. How do we embrace the future without forgetting how we got to our present? How do we attract the right kind of growth, and maintain who we are? And, what about our culture out here in Central Massachusetts?

These pages will cause one to think about how to protect what we have, our future direction, and how to move on in the very best way.

Those thoughts, and other ramblings, will hopefully inspire more thought, conversation, action, and occasionally a smile...

Always Liked This Commercial

I was reading the newspapers yesterday, and this commercial came to mind. Don't know why exactly, maybe the idea of the masses being led by a big talking head until someone comes along to put an end to it. Sort of a Wizard of Oz thing. You gotta love Toto for that.

  1. Just an observation: in the Wizard of Oz, did you notice poor Toto was actually tied to the curtain, and he was dragged or pulled to open the curtain, thereby exposing the actual "wizard" behind the curtain(notice his little legs not really touching the floor)?

In this clip and in "Oz", it's a big bellowing talking head that intimidates people. Isn't it crazy (er, Passive Aggressive) how life imitates art, or is it the other way around?

  2. Wow, super duper video. Frightening how similar this is to our current body of selectmen. Always taking their cues from a single small group at the expense of the rest of us. Kinda like Stepford husbands.

Can't wait till April, maybe then the majority of us will finally have a voice that's listened to.

  3. I think it's frightening how the current Planning Board Chairman trys to control the Planning Board with his ideas for Route 15, (see planning board video of 2/28/08), while he verbally abuses a planning board member to the point that it was so bad, he submits an apology for being so unprofessional.

Also amazing how the Planning Board Chairman helps a resident craft a petition to Selectmen to slay Tree 25. And that resident is a relative of Courtney from Worcester, the fire Lt who came to the Chairman's aid in Sturbridge.

I wish somebody could come up with proof the current selectboard being controlled by a small group. It's nonsense. However, it's obvious the Planning Board Chairman is controlling or controlled by, a large group of his own called GBIS! Hypocrisy looms large on the Planning Board scene, and at the other blog.

    Reality bites.
